Honoring Brandon

In 2020, the Oyate Group launched the Brandon Hendricks Scholarship in honor of a rising star from our community that was killed by senseless gun violence on June 29th, 2020. Brandon Hendricks was a consistent source of hope and inspiration for everyone that knew him and had recently been accepted to college with a full scholarship. To honor Brandon’s life, our organization offers financial scholarships in his name to multiple high school seniors from The Bronx that have recently been admitted to college.

About Scholarship

We want to see more students from The Bronx earn their college degree, having less debt when they graduate, and make the world a better place!

The Brandon Hendricks Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship award for high school seniors from The Bronx that have recently been admitted into college. With these scholarships, the Oyate Group hopes to alleviate some of the financial stress and economic burdens that many students face during their college years. We believe that this investment and interest during this critical time in a students academic journey will help our youth to focus on their education and value their college experience.

Being from the Bronx is not easy! It takes a lot of courage to strive for excellence when all of the tragic events is happening around you so suddenly. This scholarship will not only lift financial burdens, but it’ll allow me to pursue my career in helping the youth to better themselves. Success is not final; Failure is not fatal: it is the determination to continue that counts. With this scholarship I will continue to represent the Bronx empowering youth.

I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be a recipient of the Brandon Hendricks Scholarship award. I never had the pleasure of meeting Brandon, but the way he brought the community together in such a meaningful way spoke more than enough about his character. Starting college in current COVID atmosphere posed many challenges and unexpected costs, having access to this aid will allow me to focus on what truly matters: education. This is the inevitable and crucial first step towards creating an environment where stories like Brandon’s are a rare occurrence.
