Bronx Arts Initiative showcases Indo-Caribbean Culture, powered by Oyate Group
Caribbean Life
The Oyate Group hosted its second annual Indo-Caribbean Arts Exhibition in the Bronx as part of its Caribbean Arts Series, shifting its focus from pandemic relief to cultural preservation. Themed “Indentured Survival 2025: Current Currents”, the event featured 17 artists across visual art, film, literature, and spoken word, celebrating the complexity of Indo-Caribbean identity.
Curated by Raqeebah Zaman, the exhibition explored themes of colonialism, migration, and cultural invisibility, aiming to validate underrepresented voices and foster collective healing. Oyate COO Jason Autar emphasized the role of art in bridging community development and cultural equity.
Held in a packed Bronx venue, the event marks the fifth in Oyate’s growing arts series, with plans to expand into multi-day exhibitions and tackle current social and political issues within the Indo-Caribbean diaspora.
