A gun buyback program in the Bronx was deemed a success after 75 illegal guns were turned in during the event. The initiative, organized by A Mother’s Promise in collaboration with the nonprofit Bronx Rising Initiative, offered a $500 gift certificate to individuals who surrendered five guns, with no questions asked. Eve Hendricks, the founder of A Mother’s Promise, whose son was a victim of gun violence, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to potentially save lives through the program. The Bronx District Attorney’s office and the NYPD worked alongside the organizations to facilitate the gun buyback. Over $25,000 in gift certificates were distributed to participants who surrendered their illegal firearms.
