10 Young Women Earn Scholarships
THE RIVERDALE PRESS
The Bronx Rising Initiative honored the memory of Brandon Hendricks, a promising high school basketball player who tragically lost his life to gun violence, by establishing the Brandon Hendricks Scholarship. On July 7, ten outstanding female students from various city high schools were named recipients of the scholarship, each receiving $5,000 to support their college tuition expenses. Among the recipients are Rachel Turbridy and Abigail Smith from the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, who plan to pursue careers in music performance and pediatric medicine, respectively.
In another recognition of academic excellence, Berkeley College celebrated the achievements of Bronx students Ledwin Amaro and Vanessa Justiniano, who were included on the college’s President’s List, while Martnia Montalvo was named to the Dean’s List at the Midtown Manhattan college. The efforts of organizations like the Bronx Rising Initiative and institutions like Berkeley College are contributing to empowering and supporting young talents from the Bronx, providing opportunities and recognition for their academic and career aspirations.
