A new initiative named Rising Restaurateur has been introduced in New York City to bolster minority-owned restaurants. Grubhub, Oyate Group, and NYS Latino Restaurant, Bar & Lounge Association have committed $200,000 in microgrants and business development opportunities for eligible restaurateurs. These grants, which can go up to $10,000, aim to support owners of color and prioritize those with demonstrated financial need. The program is set to run annually until 2026, with applications open until April 30, 2024. For more details, visit oyategroup.org/rising-restaurateur/.
This initiative seeks to empower minority entrepreneurs and sustain the diverse culinary landscape of the city. Restaurateurs must meet certain criteria, including being based in specific areas of New York City or Westchester County, having 30 or fewer employees, and generating revenue of $2 million or less. Members of NYSRBLA are encouraged to apply, as a portion of the funds are dedicated to them. The program aims to foster economic growth and community resilience within the restaurant industry.
